ALPS Named 2015 Employer Of Choice By The Job Service Employers Council

ALPS, the nation’s largest direct writer of lawyers’ malpractice insurance based in Missoula, Montana, was recently named by the Job Service Employers Council (JSEC) as the Employer of Choice for companies with between 25 and 74 employees.

At ALPS the professional work setting comes with a solid benefits package, employee rewards programs, and low staff turnover. JSEC member on the awards selection committee, Adina Roe, said the employee nominations indicate that ALPS nurtures staff with development and training opportunities and nourishes the community by matching employees’ charitable giving and company-sponsored volunteerism.  Indeed, even with more than 97% of its revenues from outside of Montana, ALPS is one of the largest philanthropic investors in Missoula. “What makes ALPS special is the culture, and what makes the ALPS culture special is our people. Great compensation and benefit packages are important, but the critical part of our culture is that employees are empowered to innovate our business and are appreciated as members of a team or family,” said David Bell, ALPS CEO.

A recent news story on Missoula’s NBC affiliate, KECI, addresses more about the unique culture that has helped ALPS earn this distinction.

JSEC honors employers who strive to provide great work environments. They are chosen on five criteria: Benefits for employees, leadership and workplace culture, employee development, community orientation, and any additional information an applicant wants to provide. A business’s employees or its management, including owners, may nominate a business. Consideration is given as to whether a nomination came from employees versus management and the number of employees who nominated each business. Also weighted in favor of a nomination are applications with heart that demonstrate a personal touch with workplace culture and employers who find unique, innovative or effective ways to keep employees engaged and make them want to come to work.

ALPS proudly shares this honor with two other Missoula employers – Northwest Collectors, an employer of less than 25 employees and DirectTV, which has more than 75 employees – and will be honored at a luncheon on Wednesday, February 25. ALPS was also recognized nationally in 2014 as a ‘Best Place to Work’ by Business Insurance.

Since 1988, ALPS has been the preeminent provider of lawyers’ professional liability insurance, with an emphasis on protection, stability, and commitment to the legal community.
